Written by John Bailey

Itchen Imperial’s Men’s Senior Four P Joyce, L Williams, M Wardell, T Foad (Stk) Robin McGregor Ritchie (Cox) showed a touch of class at their Clubs Annual Regatta on Saturday to make it two out of three wins to lead this years Hants and Dorset Senior Championship. With a flawless display as they powered from their turning buoy 1 ½ lengths clear of main challengerChristchurch they increased that to by a further length as they crossed the finishing line. More success for Wardell and Williams in the Senior Pairs as they moved ahead of Lymington in the Championship and Tom Foad kept his unbeaten run going in the Men’s Junior Sculls with an easy win over Shanklin.

Christchurch kept to winning ways in the Ladies Senior Fours, holding off Itchen to win by ½ length, whilst their Men’s Novice Four cut their win even finer to win by a Canvas. Further wins in the Men’s Novice Scull for Christchurch with Rafferty getting the better of club mate Rose by 3 lengths and an even easier point for their Ladies Junior Fours with a row over when Coalporters failed to appear on the starting line for the final.

Southampton Senior Ladies Pair gained  their first win of the season, with Teri Edwards coming in to partner Andria Davis, they proved to be more than a match for the Itchen Championship leaders Jesse Bull and Kirsty McGregor Ritchie, who were so far unbeaten.

The closest of the days finals went to BTC’S Richard Hume who celebrated gaining a place in the GB Training Squad at the Leander Club for the coming year with his second Senior Sculling point of the season with a magnificent finishing burst, coming from a ½ length down fifty metres from the finish, to win by a length from Chris Schreiber of Lymington.
